Is butter coffee or Bulletproof® coffee good for weight loss?
No, it's not. Sure, if you drink butter coffee or the so called Bulletproof® coffee instead of having breakfast you might lose some weight. But you'd likely lose even more weight with a breakfast consisting of only black coffee (or just a little milk), i.e. intermittent fasting.
Here's an article on the subject: Is drinking coffee with butter and oil the key to weight loss?
The main benefits of butter coffee are long-lasting satiety and energy, and possibly a feeling of mental clarity (due to ketones, and the caffeine). Why add butter and oil to your coffee?
The fat provides satiety and helps curb cravings. The amount of fat can be adjusted to your liking. It can be a good idea to start off with a small amount, lets say a teaspoon, of MCT oil and work your way up to a full tablespoon if you feel good doing so. Some people experience stomach problems if adding too much oil at once.
The fat together with the caffeine from the coffee will give you a boost of energy to start your day. If caffeine isn't your thing, go ahead and try it with decaf. It won't give you quite the same effect but you will still have a great-tasting and filling drink.
MCT oil can be ordered online, but if you don't want to use it or can't find it, try unflavored coconut oil instead.
Add flavor
Make this recipe your own by adding your favorite flavors to it. Add some unsweetened cocoa powder and you'll have a butter mocha. Or why not try some cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice. If you feel like adding sweetness to your coffee, check out our guide to keto sweeteners.
This recipe works with hot tea or even bone broth, too, so give it a try. Or if chocolate is your thing, try our keto hot chocolate... a very low-carb morning indulgence!

If you don't have a blender, you would want to find some other way to stir it up well so the oil gets blended in and doesn't separate.
She may wish to speak with her doctor or pharmacist about this. Different medications have different requirements.

Coconut extract is just flavoring. It might taste good but it does not contain fat.
Coffee includes trace carbs. Different brands and brewing methods may affect the final carb count.
Unfortunately milk is too high carb and has too much lactose/milk sugar to be keto friendly. Heavy cream or heavy whipping cream are better options because they are lower carb and higher fat.
You will want to pay attention to the ingredients. Many protein powders have artificial sweeteners. Also keep an eye on your protein amount as keto is moderate protein, not high protein.
This is pretty easily customized! You can omit the coconut oil and try the heavy cream or avocado oil, whichever you prefer.
MCT stands for medium chain triglycerides - it's a processed, liquid version of coconut oil.
Anytime you eat or drink a meal, you should ideally be able to go 4-6 hours before your next meal. BPC is not complete, in that it has no protein. Some people prefer to add bacon and/or eggs to their BPC to help make a complete meal. It's personal preference.
A BPC will break a fast. Have you seen our top weightloss tips? https://strongmetabolism.fit/how-to-lose-weight%3C/a%3E%3C/div%3E
For most people, the erythritol will not affect blood sugar and can be omitted from carb count for the day.
Can I eat thatbwith bulletproof coffee or is it to much?
Just watch the carb count and make sure it fits within your limits for the day.
Frothing is absolutely necessary if you add butter. However if you like plain black coffee, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that! Go with what you like.
Sorry just confused as I have just started the Keto diet.
Bulletproof coffee would break a fast, this is a breakfast meal item. Only black coffee with a very small splash of cream is OK for while fasting.
Yes, a bulletproof coffee will break a fast. Dr Fung recommends only bone broth, tea or black coffee (maybe 1-2t of cream) when fasting.
My question is if I am not allowed to have dairy or eggwhite can I use more coconut oil (or something else)?
Also in case of other recipes.
I would not recommend adding more coconut oil. Too much can be very upsetting to your stomach. Dairy and egg substitutes will likely vary by recipe and what function the ingredient serves in that recipe. We do have dairy free recipes and egg free! Here's a link to our egg free breakfasts.
